ArmorThane Shipping Policy

How ArmorThane coatings, equipment and parts get from our Springfield, Missouri plant to your shop, your yard or your jobsite — what ships parcel, what ships freight, how your freight quote is built, and exactly what to do in the five minutes the truck is at your dock.

Last updated October 2026 Applies to U.S. & Canada Questions (417) 831-5090

The short version

ArmorThane ships from its manufacturing facility in Springfield, Missouri, and from our Canadian operation for orders placed in Canada. Small parts, supplies and safety gear move by parcel carrier. Coatings, primers, equipment and anything on a pallet move by LTL truck freight. Freight is quoted per order, not charged at a flat rate — once your order is in, we price the freight for your address and email the quote to you for confirmation before anything leaves the dock.

01 — Methods

How your order ships

Protective coatings are heavy, regulated and sold in sizes that parcel carriers will not take. The method is chosen by what you ordered, not by what you pay — and most ArmorThane orders contain more than one kind of item.

Method one

Parcel ground

Spray gun parts, fittings, filters, mix chambers, tips, hoses, PPE, literature and most items under roughly 70 lb per carton.

  • Tracking emailed when the label is created
  • No appointment, no liftgate, no signature in most cases
  • Some chemicals cannot travel this way — see regulated materials
Method two

LTL truck freight

Drums, pails, kits, totes, proportioners, hose assemblies and anything that leaves here strapped to a pallet.

  • Delivered to a commercial dock during business hours
  • Liftgate, residential or appointment delivery can be added
  • You sign a delivery receipt — that document matters
Method three

Flatbed & dedicated

Mobile coating units, spray rigs, trailers and full-truckload material orders.

  • Scheduled individually with you before dispatch
  • Trailered units may be driven or hauled to you
  • Delivery window confirmed by phone, not just email

Mixed orders are consolidated where it saves you money. If splitting the order gets the critical part to you faster, we will say so before we ship.
02 — Timing

Order processing & lead times

An ArmorThane order moves through five steps. Most of the clock is in the two that involve you — approving the freight quote and being there to take delivery.

  1. Order received

Placed through your applicator portal order form, by phone on (417) 831-5090, or by email to sales@armorthane.com. Orders received by 12:00 p.m. Central on a business day are worked the same day.

  2. Reviewed and stock checked

We confirm part numbers, quantities, color and stock. If something is short or on a production run, you hear about it at this step — not after the truck has gone.

  3. Freight quoted

We rate your shipment to your actual delivery address, including any accessorials you need, and email the freight figure to you.

  4. You confirm

Reply to approve the freight and the order is released to the floor. Nothing ships, and nothing is billed for freight, until you have said yes.

  5. Picked, packed, shipped

In-stock material is typically on a truck within 1–3 business days of your approval. You get the carrier, the pro number or tracking, and the piece count.

Windows are typical, not guaranteed. Freight is a third-party service and transit times are the carrier's estimate, not a contracted delivery date.
Planning a job Tell us the spray date when you order. If the date is tight we will tell you honestly whether it is achievable, and what it costs to make it achievable — that is a better conversation on day one than on day four.
03 — Cost

How freight is quoted

We do not publish a flat shipping rate, because a pallet of drums to a dock in Tulsa and the same pallet to a gravel driveway in rural Montana are not the same shipment. Your quote is built from five things.

What drives the number

  • Weight and pallet count — a drum set is heavy before it is bulky
  • Freight class and commodity — regulated material rates differently
  • Distance and lane — some lanes simply cost more to serve
  • Delivery access — dock, forklift, liftgate, or none of the above
  • Service level — standard LTL, guaranteed, or expedited

What you can do about it

  • Ship to a commercial address with a dock wherever possible
  • Order full pallet quantities instead of repeat part-pallets
  • Give us the real delivery conditions up front, not at the door
  • Group a job's material into one release rather than three
  • Ask about will-call if you are within driving distance of Springfield

Accessorial charges

These are carrier services added to a shipment. They are real costs passed through at cost — the reason we ask about your delivery site before quoting is so none of them turn up as a surprise after the fact.

ServiceWhen it appliesHow to avoid it
Liftgate deliveryNo dock and no forklift on siteReceive at a commercial dock
Residential deliveryHome address, farm or non-commercial siteShip to a shop, yard or terminal
Limited accessSchools, sites, military bases, storage facilitiesTell us at order so it is quoted, not billed later
Delivery appointmentReceiving hours must be arrangedKeep a dock open during carrier hours
Inside deliveryDriver must move freight past the tailgateHave a forklift or crew at the door
Redelivery / storageNobody available when the carrier arrivesAnswer the appointment call the first time
ReconsignmentAddress changed after the shipment is in transitConfirm the ship-to before you approve the quote
Accessorials discovered at the point of delivery are invoiced by the carrier after the fact and billed through to the purchaser at cost.
The one that catches people "Residential" is the carrier's judgment, not yours. A shop behind a house, a farm, or a unit in a self-storage yard is usually classed residential and usually needs a liftgate. Two minutes describing the site when you order is cheaper than both charges appearing on an invoice three weeks later.
04 — Tool

Shipment estimator

Tell it what you are ordering and where it is going, and it will tell you how the shipment will most likely move, what the truck will need from you, and which accessorials are likely to show up on the quote.

Plan ahead

What will my order ship as?

An indication only. Your written freight quote from ArmorThane is the number that counts.

Plan for a palletized delivery and have unloading sorted before the truck is booked.

05 — Compliance

Regulated materials & DOT

Safety check on sealed chemical drums before a coatings shipment leaves the plant
Every chemical shipment leaves with the documentation the carrier and the receiver are entitled to.

Polyurea and polyurethane systems are two-component chemistries. Depending on the product, one or both sides can be a regulated commodity for transport, and some consumables — solvents, aerosols, certain primers and adhesives — are regulated outright.

  • Shipped in compliance with U.S. DOT and, for Canadian orders, TDG requirements
  • Marked, labeled and documented to the classification of the material in the container
  • Safety Data Sheets travel with the shipment and are available on request before you order
  • No air or expedited parcel for restricted items, whatever the hurry
  • No PO boxes and no carrier-held freight for regulated material

Store material the way the Technical Data Sheet says: sealed, off the ground, out of direct sun, and within the temperature range for the product — generally 60–90°F (15–32°C). Material that has frozen or cooked in a trailer sprays differently, and storage after delivery is on the receiver.

06 — At the dock

Receiving your shipment

Once you sign a clean delivery receipt, you have told the carrier the freight arrived in good order — and a later claim becomes very hard to win. These five minutes are worth more than any other part of this page.

ArmorThane's shipping policy

When you receive a shipment from ArmorThane, it is imperative that you inspect your shipment thoroughly before signing for it as received. Once the shipment is signed for, if there are any damaged or missing pieces, your signature acknowledges that everything was received in good condition and nothing was missing, making freight claims challenging.

In the event of damaged or missing pieces, please let the driver know, document the damage on the paperwork, take pictures of the damage, and have the driver sign off on it, acknowledging the issues.

Before the driver leaves

Delivery checklist

Tick these off at the tailgate. Nothing here takes longer than a minute.

Checklist 0 of 7
Forklift unloading palletized coating material at a receiving dock
If you have no forklift and no dock, order a liftgate — a driver is not required to unload for you.
Do not sign clean A signature with no exception noted is the carrier's proof that the freight was delivered undamaged and complete. If anything looks wrong, write it on the receipt before you sign. If the damage is severe, you may refuse the damaged pieces outright — call us from the dock on (417) 831-5090 and we will tell you whether to refuse or accept with exceptions.
07 — When it goes wrong

Damage, shortage & claims

Freight gets damaged occasionally. What decides whether it is fixed quickly or argued about for a month is how the first twenty-four hours are handled.

  1. Visible damage — note it and tell us the same day

Noted on the delivery receipt, photographed, and emailed to shipping@armorthane.com on the day of delivery. Include the pro number, the piece count and the photos.

  2. Concealed damage — report within 5 business days

Damage you could not see at the tailgate must be reported within five business days of delivery, with photographs and the original packaging retained for inspection. Outside that window the carrier will decline the claim and so, in most cases, will we.

  3. Shortages — count before you sign

A short count noted on the delivery receipt is resolved quickly. A short count reported after a clean signature is a dispute between you and the carrier, and we can only assist.

  4. We file, you are kept informed

Where ArmorThane arranged the freight, we file the claim and chase it. You get the claim number and the status; we do not leave you to argue with a terminal.

  5. Replacement material

Where a job is waiting, replacement material is dispatched on its own schedule rather than waiting for the claim to settle. Talk to us about it — we would rather keep your crew spraying.

Send this with every claim Pro number or tracking number · ArmorThane order or invoice number · photographs of the damage on the truck and after unloading · a copy of the signed delivery receipt showing the noted exception · the quantity affected.
08 — Returns

Returns, refusals & reconsignment

Authorization

Call before you ship anything back

Returns need a return authorization from ArmorThane first. Material sent back without one cannot be received, credited or stored, and regulated material returned without paperwork is a compliance problem for everyone.

Chemicals

Coatings are generally not returnable

Once a chemical shipment has left our control, its storage and handling history cannot be verified, so opened containers, custom-tinted color and made-to-order batches are not returnable. A restocking charge and return freight may apply where a return is authorized.

Refusals

Refusing a delivery

Refuse damaged freight on the spot — that is what refusal is for. A shipment refused for any other reason, or returned because nobody was there to receive it, carries the return freight and any carrier storage back to the purchaser.

Changing the address mid-transit Once freight is moving, redirecting it is a reconsignment and the carrier charges for it. If your ship-to might change, say so before you approve the quote rather than after the pallet is on a trailer.
09 — Beyond the lower 48

Canada, Alaska, Hawaii & export

Canada

Canadian orders

Canadian applicators order through our Canadian operation on 780-444-6200. Orders ship within Canada where stock allows; cross-border shipments move under TDG requirements with customs documentation prepared for the shipment.

Offshore states

Alaska, Hawaii & Puerto Rico

Shipped by ocean or air-eligible service depending on the commodity. Expect a longer transit and a freight quote that reflects the lane. Regulated material cannot always travel by air, which can decide the method for you.

Export

International

ArmorThane ships internationally and supports applicators in more than 40 countries. Export orders are quoted individually and include documentation, packaging and the Incoterm agreed for your shipment. Duties, taxes and brokerage are the importer's responsibility.

10 — Will-call

Picking it up yourself

If you are within driving distance of Springfield, will-call is often the fastest and cheapest way to get material — particularly for a single drum set that would otherwise ride a liftgate truck.

  • Arrange it first. Call (417) 831-5090 so the order is picked and staged before you arrive.
  • Bring the right vehicle. A full 55-gallon drum is heavy; bring straps, and bring help or a forklift.
  • Secure your own load. Once it is on your truck, the load and its securement are yours.
  • Mind the weather. Chemical left in an open bed through a hard freeze or a hot afternoon is chemical you will fight on the gun.

Material is picked and staged before you arrive, so will-call is a load-and-go.
11 — Terms

Title, risk of loss & delays

Title and risk

Unless your written agreement with ArmorThane says otherwise, shipments are FOB origin. Title and risk of loss pass to the purchaser when the carrier takes possession at our facility, which is why the delivery receipt and the claim process above matter so much.

Delays outside our control

Transit times are carrier estimates. Weather, road closures, terminal congestion, equipment failures, labour action and raw-material supply can move a date. We will tell you as soon as we know, and we will not quietly let a date slide.

Addresses and access

Freight is delivered to the address on the bill of lading. Charges caused by an incorrect address, an inaccessible site or an unavailable receiver are the purchaser's responsibility.

Changes to this policy

This policy applies to orders placed with ArmorThane and may be updated as carrier requirements and regulations change. The terms on your quote, order acknowledgement or distributor agreement govern where they differ from this page.

12 — FAQ

Shipping questions

Why can't you just tell me the shipping cost on the website?
Because the honest number depends on your address and your dock. Coatings ship as palletized freight, and LTL pricing moves with weight, class, lane and the services the delivery site needs. A flat rate would mean overcharging most customers to cover the few difficult deliveries. We rate your actual shipment and send you the figure before anything moves.
How long after I order will I have material?
For in-stock coatings, typically 1–3 business days to ship once you approve the freight quote, plus 2–6 business days in transit for most of the continental U.S. Parts and supplies going parcel are usually faster. Custom color, equipment and rigs are quoted at the time of order.
Can I use my own freight account?
Yes. Collect shipments on your own carrier account are welcome — give us the account number and the carrier when you place the order. You then own the carrier relationship, including any claim.
Do I need a forklift?
For palletized freight, you need a dock, a forklift, or a liftgate added to the shipment. The driver is not required to unload your pallet and most will not. If you are unsure what your site counts as, use the shipment estimator above or just ask us.
Can coatings ship overnight or by air?
Usually not. Regulated material is restricted from several expedited and air services regardless of urgency. Where a job is genuinely at a standstill, call us — expedited ground, a guaranteed LTL service or a different shipping point is often the real answer.
My shipment arrived damaged. What do I do first?
Note it on the delivery receipt before you sign, photograph it on the truck, keep the packaging, and email shipping@armorthane.com the same day. The full sequence is in damage, shortage & claims.
Will you ship to a jobsite?
Yes, with planning. Jobsites are usually limited access, almost always need a liftgate, and nearly always need an appointment. Tell us it is a site when you order so it is quoted properly and someone is there when the truck arrives.
Can I split one order across two addresses?
Yes — it is two shipments and two freight quotes. Say so when you order rather than after it is picked, and we will rate both.
Who do I talk to about an order already on the road?
Email shipping@armorthane.com with your order or pro number, or call (417) 831-5090. In Canada, call 780-444-6200.
