Product data sheets

Polyurea has a reputation as a premium coating, and per gallon it is. But the material is usually not the biggest part of the price. Surface prep, thickness, access, repairs and downtime drive most of what you pay. This guide pulls together the cost ranges we have published for common polyurea jobs and explains what moves the number up or down, so you can compare quotes on the same basis.

Quick answer

Polyurea coating cost depends mostly on the job: a polyurea flake garage floor typically runs about $5 to $10 per square foot installed, and a professionally sprayed bedliner about $525 to $700 for a full-size pickup. Roofs, tank linings and industrial work are priced per project because prep, repairs, thickness and access vary so much. Thickness (mils), surface preparation and whether an aliphatic topcoat is needed are the biggest cost drivers.

What moves it

Polyurea cost drivers

Prep

Surface preparation

Grinding, shot blasting, abrasive blasting, repairs and moisture mitigation often cost more than the coating.

Mils

Thickness

Material cost scales with thickness. A 40 mil lining uses about twice the material of a 20 mil coating.

Topcoat

Aliphatic topcoat

UV-stable topcoats add a second, more expensive material on exposed work.

Access

Access and height

Lifts, scaffolding and confined-space entry add labor and equipment.

Details

Details and penetrations

Corners, drains, pipes and seams take time to detail properly.

Downtime

Schedule

Night, weekend or fast-turn work costs more, but polyurea fast cure can save downtime costs.

Worth it?

Polyurea vs cheaper coatings over time

A cheaper coating that needs replacing twice as often costs more. Polyurea earns its price where toughness, thickness and fast return to service matter: abuse, impact, chemicals, movement and tight shutdown windows. On a simple, low-traffic surface, a cheaper coating may be the better value.

Compare quotes on the same specAsk every bidder for the prep method, total dry film thickness, product names, topcoat and testing. A low price with half the thickness is not the same job.
DIY vs pro

Can you do it yourself?

Fast-set spray polyurea needs heated plural-component equipment and training, so it is a professional job. Roll-on and slow-set products sold for DIY are different chemistries with different performance. If you want to offer polyurea as a service, ArmorThane provides equipment, coatings and training; see equipment cost.

FAQ

Polyurea cost questions

How much does polyurea cost per square foot?

It depends on the job. A polyurea flake garage floor typically runs about $5 to $10 per square foot installed. Roofs, linings and industrial jobs are quoted per project because prep and thickness vary widely.

Why is polyurea more expensive than epoxy?

Polyurea materials and the plural-component equipment and training needed to spray them cost more. In return you get faster cure, more flexibility and usually a thicker, tougher film.

How much does a polyurea bedliner cost?

A professionally sprayed bedliner typically costs about $525 to $700 for a full-size pickup bed.

What is the biggest factor in polyurea cost?

Usually surface preparation, followed by thickness. Access, details and a UV topcoat also matter.

Is polyurea worth the cost?

Where impact, abrasion, chemicals, movement or downtime matter, it often costs less over its life. On simple, low-traffic surfaces a cheaper coating may be the better value.
