Is Bedliner Bulletproof?

    IS BEDLINER BULLETPROOF?

As spraying the entire vehicle in bedliner material has become more and more popular, so too has the question “is bed liner bulletproof?” This is not an odd question by any means, and indeed not a rare question searched in Google. Whether a bedliner is bulletproof was even tested by Mythbusters back in 2017.

One of the first videos that pop up is from YouTuber JustDustin having some items sprayed and shot. With a great video that he has produced. Luckily, we don’t use the material used here, so it’s a great opportunity for us to mess around with some ArmorThane ArmorLiner, our most widely used material and show just how much stronger our material is than others on the market today.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF BED LINER ADDITIVES & TEXTURES

The great thing about bedliner and ArmorThane is applying various textures and additives to the material to give the customers the protection they need and want. A few of the various additives used in ArmorThane bedliner are Teflon, rubber crumb, granules; vinyl flattener is some of the most popular ones used depending on the method. The gripper and rubber crumb are renowned for their aggressive look and granules for more non-skid surfaces, like sidebars running boards, or steps.

Textures can also range from rugged and rough textures when spraying in a bedliner to flat and smooth. Regulating the air pressure, nozzle size, and spread can all alter the appearance of a bedliner. For our standard size, we have dialed in our guns to give a fine and tight texture. This is standard and done every time unless specified differently by you, the customer.

    ARMORTHANE AND PERFORMANCE SHOOTING

Now let’s discuss what we have prepared for a test. We are taking this car door and layering it with ArmorThane bedliner material. We will then exercise our 2nd Amendment rights and have some fun, err, I mean, do some serious testing and record that data! We have chosen to do a simple spray and shoot test. We are doing this because there are plenty of videos in which companies will spray layer after layer, apply an additive, and then layer some more material again. We feel this is being unreleasitic and a bit misleading. In real life, most people are going to go with the typical thickness of a bedliner. We want to show what our material can do without additives to get a realistic look at what you will be getting. We have tested with three thin layers. We tested both a hard and soft material and layered those on top of one another. The test proved to be a success. None of the bullets from the 9mm handgun were able to penetrate the material.
