Effective primary containment is paramount for the safe storage of hazardous materials. In a perfect world, hazardous substances should only ever be in direct contact with primary containers, which are made of specialized materials chosen for their compatibility with different hazardous chemicals. However, while container material selection is first and foremost, a second key step in maintaining safe and effective primary containment is through additional protection using coating technologies like polyurea. Polyurea is highly durable, with all the strength and hardness expected of industrial coatings. What makes polyurea unique, is that this strength and durability is paired with high flexibility, ease of application, rapid curing times, and better safety and sustainability characteristics. Polyurea is compatible with almost any substrate, and resists many of the most common hazardous materials like sulfuric acid or toluene. It also forms a watertight seal, serving as a “container to your container,” or as we like to call it – the halfway hero! Made of 100% solids and applied with high-pressure spray equipment, almost any surface can be coated in a uniform layer of polyurea to see any primary containment strategy reach new levels of safety and performance.

Why leading industries trust polyurea to protect their most critical assets
Creates a seamless, monolithic membrane with zero seams or joints, eliminating all potential leak points in primary containment systems.
Sets in seconds and returns to service in under an hour, minimizing downtime for critical containment infrastructure.
Withstands impacts, abrasion, and thermal cycling with tensile strength exceeding 3,000 PSI and 300%+ elongation.
Resists acids, alkalis, solvents, and petroleum products including sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, and toluene.
Maintains flexibility and performance from -40°F to 350°F, ideal for extreme environments and thermal cycling conditions.
Made from 100% solids with zero VOCs, meeting the strictest environmental and workplace safety regulations.

Polyurea coatings protect primary containment across these critical sectors
Tank farms, pipelines, and processing vessels requiring leak-proof barriers.
Reactors, storage tanks, and transfer systems handling corrosive chemicals.
Clarifiers, digesters, and potable water tanks requiring NSF-61 compliant coatings.
Leach pads, tailings, and process tanks exposed to aggressive slurries.
Cooling towers, fuel storage, and waste containment in nuclear and conventional plants.
Clean room containment, solvent storage, and pharmaceutical process vessels.
FDA-compliant coatings for food-grade tanks, silos, and processing equipment.
Fuel storage depots, loading terminals, and ISO container refurbishment.

Abrasive blasting to SSPC-SP10 near-white metal, followed by moisture testing and profile verification.
Specialized primer coat to maximize adhesion to the substrate and ensure long-term coating integrity.
High-pressure plural-component spray application creates a seamless, uniform membrane at 60-120 mils.
Holiday testing, thickness verification, and adhesion pull tests ensure coating meets all specifications.
