Polyurea Spray Rig Builder
Spray Foam Rig Builder
When Nigeria's government needed to solve persistent roof leaks on two of Abuja's most important religious landmarks — the National Mosque and the National Christian Centre — they turned to ArmorThane's polyurea spray coating technology. Our team applied ArmorLiner polyurea across 4,000 sq. meters of roof surface, creating a seamless, monolithic barrier that eliminated every single leak. The project was completed in three months with rigorous adhesion testing confirming exceptional bond strength.
From iconic landmarks with chronic leaking to a permanent polyurea waterproofing solution — discover how ArmorThane protected two of Nigeria's most important buildings.
When Nigeria’s government reached out to us about two badly leaking roofs in Abuja, we knew right away this wasn’t going to be a typical roof waterproofing job. The buildings in question? The Abuja National Mosque and the National Christian Centre — two of the most iconic and heavily visited religious landmarks in the entire country.
Thousands of worshippers pass through these doors every single week. A leaking roof isn’t just an inconvenience at that scale — it’s a real threat to the structure, the interiors, and honestly, to the safety of the people inside. Both buildings carry enormous cultural weight in Nigeria. They sit near each other in the capital city as powerful symbols of interfaith unity, and letting them fall into disrepair simply wasn’t an option.
Our team was brought in to solve the problem for good using polyurea spray coatings — and that’s exactly what we did.
If you’ve ever dealt with a flat or low-slope roof that just won’t stop leaking, you probably already know how frustrating it can be. Traditional roofing membranes crack, peel, and eventually give way — especially in a climate like Abuja’s, where the rainy season doesn’t pull any punches.
That’s where polyurea roof coatings come in. Unlike conventional roofing products, polyurea forms a seamless, monolithic barrier across the entire roof surface. There are no seams, no joints, and no weak points where water can sneak through. It bonds directly to the concrete substrate and flexes with the building as temperatures shift throughout the day — which is a big deal in Nigeria, where daytime heat and nighttime cooling cause significant expansion and contraction.
Concrete roofs are naturally prone to cracking over time. Shrinkage, settling, and thermal stress all contribute. Once those hairline cracks form, water finds its way through — and before you know it, you’re dealing with interior damage, mold growth, and structural concerns. Metal fasteners and deck components corrode as well, creating additional entry points for moisture.
The Abuja National Mosque had been fighting these problems for years. Previous repair attempts hadn’t held up, and the building needed a lasting roof waterproofing solution. That’s why our ArmorLiner polyurea spray coating was the right fit — it’s built to handle exactly these kinds of conditions.
Polyurea coatings are ideal for flat and low-slope roofs because they cure in seconds, forming a completely seamless membrane. Unlike traditional roofing materials that rely on overlapping seams, polyurea eliminates the #1 failure point in commercial roofing — making it the gold standard for waterproofing in extreme climates like Nigeria's.
The Abuja National Mosque can accommodate over 5,000 worshippers at a time, while the National Christian Centre seats approximately 5,000 people as well. Together, these buildings serve as powerful symbols of Nigeria's interfaith unity, sitting near each other in the heart of the capital city. Protecting these structures isn't just about waterproofing — it's about preserving national heritage.
The Christian Center was designed in Postmodern version of the Neo-gothic style by Nigerian architectural firm Darchiwork Group, located in Lagos. It was built by the Italian construction firm Gitto Costruzioni Generali Nigeria Ltd. The project was started around 1989, then lay dormant for several years until 2004, when the Christian Association of Nigeria created a committee to guarantee its speedy completion. The dedication, on 2 October 2005, coincided with the celebration of Nigeria’s 45th anniversary as an independent nation.
"Both buildings carry enormous cultural weight in Nigeria. They sit near each other in the capital city as powerful symbols of interfaith unity, and letting them fall into disrepair simply wasn't an option."
— ARMORTHANE PROJECT TEAM
Before any polyurea application can begin, thorough surface preparation is critical. The existing failed membrane must be completely removed, and the concrete substrate must be properly prepared to ensure optimal adhesion. Our crew of seven used full PPE including full-face masks, fresh air systems, protective suits, gloves, booties, and earplugs throughout the entire process.
Before beginning, the seven crew prepared for the job by gearing up with full-face masks, a fresh air system, suits, gloves, booties, and earplugs. Then, they removed the failed membrane and prepared the concrete surface to receive ArmorThane’s flagship product, ArmorLiner polyurea spray coating.
The deck area of the roof was 4,000 sq. meters, and they chose to go with a tan color at 3mm thickness. The client added new areas, like a metal water tank coated after ArmorThane completed the deck areas.
There has not been a single leak since the work was completed last month. The entire coating application took three months to complete. Now that completed, Abuja’s National Mosque‘s roof will be waterproof and safe for decades to come.
The applicator ended the project by conducting tests on the polyurea applied substrate. This involved affixing 20mm dollies to the surface. After allowing the glue to set for 24 hours, the dollies were then drilled using a 20mm coring hole bit.
After completing the coating application, our applicator conducted rigorous adhesion pull tests on the polyurea-applied substrate using 20mm dollies. The results speak for themselves:
"With over 30 years of experience in protective coatings, ArmorThane delivers polyurea solutions that outperform traditional waterproofing methods in every measurable category."
